Photo Gallery

Welcome to the Photo Gallery! We hope you will stay long enough to see all of our pictures. This page may load slowly to download all of the pictures. As we add more pictures they will be added to the top of the last ones on the page so that if you visit frequently you will only have to wait for the first ones to load at the top to see what we have added. I hope this helps to save time for our visitors.

Here are some pics we took of our newly built stanchion. The design is simple... 2 6"X6" posts in the ground and an upright swing arm that pivots on a bolt to lock her neck in. Works pretty well. There is a hook and eye to hold it closed while she eats or we milk. This is the stanchion closed as if she was eating. The width between upright posts is about 6" - 8" we measured the cow to find the best width for her.

There is a 4"x4" cross piece that the pivot arm is attached to. We used a 4"x4".

We had to put in 2 T posts to keep her body from pinning us against the walls! She did not like to stand still. The eye bolt is going to be moved to the handle portion of the top cross board because it is in the way of closing, as it is in this picture.

This is the stanchion open. When we usher her in this is how it is as she goes for her food. Then we just pick it up and push it over her, walk around and hook it in place. I suppose it only needed to open about 18 - 20" but we didn't put up a second post to hold it up.

This is the only moveable part. The pivot arm moves up over the top of her neck.

You can see the pivot bolt here.

Here is Mama, our Jersey cow.

This is Mama's calf, Roast. He was born on the farm in January, 2008

This is Hamburger. We bought him with Mama to help with milking and to feed out for the freezer next year.

This is Steak. He came with Mama, also.

This is Jazzy. She is 1/2 border collie, 1/2 australian shepherd. She is mostly Christie's Dog.

This is Hicks. He is the most recent addition to our horse collection. He is very easy to ride and has been useful with the cows.
